From September 22 to 23, 2024, during the United Nations General Assembly, the UN will convene the "Summit of the Future." World leaders will gather at the UN Headquarters in New York to reach a new international consensus on how to create a better present and secure the future. On the eve of the summit, specifically on the Summit Action Days of September 20 and 21, the Global Energy Interconnection Development and Cooperation Organization (GEIDCO) and the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network (UNSDSN) will co-host a two-day pre-summit event at Columbia University.
Energy is a critical issue concerning the overall sustainable development of humanity and is one of the key topics of the Summit of the Future. Therefore, a dedicated "Future of Energy" forum has been arranged within the aforementioned pre-summit event. This forum has been approved as one of the official side events of the UN Summit of the Future.
The "Future of Energy" forum aims to bring together national leaders, senior UN officials, and eminent scholars to discuss the future of energy development. Co-organized by SDSN and GEIDCO, participants will be invited to assess the current state of global energy development, identify challenges related to financing the energy transition, and explore medium- and long-term trends in energy production, distribution, and consumption. The conference will focus on key issues related to the energy transition, such as cutting-edge technologies, international cooperation, financing and investment in energy infrastructure, and how to reach a consensus on a global energy blueprint.
